Taking any type of online program can be a little stressful and worrisome as you do not know what to expect and what will be expected of you. There are also advantages and disadvantages to consider before spending money and enrolling in an online course.
If you are considering a career in nursing and would like to become an LPN, rather than studying through a college, you can now do it online from the comforts of your own home.
What You Can Expect:
You will not only be able to study on your own time, but you will also not have to attend classes on a regular basis. There will be times where you will have to go to a class for practical assignments, but this will not be a regular thing. You will still be given assignments to hand in and you will need to sit the licensing exam. The time for an online LPN course curriculum is the same as the on-campus curriculum although the time frame is shorter for the former but the learning curve is more intense. As an online student you must really be focused and determined in your studies with good discipline in mastering the knowledge and medical concepts.

Advantages
The advantages of doing an online LPN course are certainly being able to study on your own time. This will allow you to still have a part time job or just the freedom to know that you are flexible in your studies. There is no need for you to sit in traffic to make class on time and it is up to you to decide at what speed you want to study at. If you have a lot of free time, you can move ahead and finish your course faster. Also, taking an accredited course online is also cheaper than studying at a college. The reason these institutions can offer online LPN programs at reduced tuition costs is because the online institution has no costs like electricity bills, salaries for staff, stationary for the college and the overall maintenance of the college.
Disadvantages
Studying on your own time and not having to go to class means you are responsible for your own time management. You have to ensure you are motivated and driven and stick to a tight schedule you have worked out for yourself. Also, there are no classrooms for you to ask questions in, so you will have to communicate with the professors via e-mail which means you can wait 2 days for the answer to your question. Depending on your situation, also bear in mind that you will have very little social interaction with other students.

For some, these might not be disadvantages but for others, these are factors that you need to take into account before deciding on an online LPN program.
Employment opportunities
There are quite a number of employment opportunities available that you can consider after having completed an online LPN program. Healthcare in America is expanding, creating a shortage of nurses at the moment, making LPNs high in demand at the moment.
You will find placement as:
An assistant to registered nurses and physician
Part of the staff that cares for the elderly
A staff member that helps to care for infants and newborns
If you have the passion to help people this is most definitely a profession worth considering. This is also a good starting point if you want to become a registered nurse.
Educational requirements
There are some educational requirements if you want to enrol in an LPN program. These differ from institution to institution but there is some common ground among them. In terms of educational requirements it is essential you have a high school diploma and a CNA certification. Also, it is required that you have completed certain subjects on a college level such as Maths and English along with anatomy and physiology
The main subjects you can expect from the program will be nursing fundamentals and basic nursing. These will provide you the comprehensive overview of what you need to know and these are the basics of what you can expect from LPN online program.
Studying online has great advantages to it, you must just make sure that you know what will be expected of you and the amount of work it will entail.
